Staff Profile: Kate Fuller

Kate Fuller

Head of Primary

After a brief stint working in the finance industry I retrained to be a teacher having spent some time volunteering in a special school in Surrey. My teaching career started in a very highly regarded ‘Beacon’ state infant school in South London that was growing to become a Primary School.

While teaching full time I also worked for the Local Authority as a Leading Maths teacher; supporting other teachers in the region with their teaching and learning of mathematics. This experience led to an opportunity to join the National Strategies as a Numeracy Consultant working in Suffolk. After spending time teaching teachers in this role, the pull of working with students prevailed and I returned to the classroom as a Deputy Head in Hampshire in school that had a visionary cross-curricular approach to learning. It was here that I was promoted to Headship, I have never looked back! The wonderful mixture of teaching teachers while being with students is, for me, the perfect mix.

From Hampshire, I moved to the internationally acclaimed Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur. I was there for five years developing the teachers, the students, the school buildings and working with a team to write and deliver a cutting edge international take on the UK National Curriculum. This led to Alice Smith being shortlisted as International School of the Year last year by the TES Independent School Awards. After five very rewarding and fulfilling years my family and I wanted a new challenge and chose the British International School of Houston as the school we wanted our daughters to complete their Primary Education. I am delighted, excited and very motivated to be one of the team who will sail Nord Anglia Education’s flagship school towards being the best international school in the world.

My husband Nick and I have two daughters, Freya and Florence. As a family we love spending time outside whether on our bicycles, walking, hiking or swimming. We love to cook together and very much enjoy exploring new places and meeting new people. I have a creative side and, whenever time allows, enjoy painting and sketching. We have a house full of books and love to cuddle up on the sofa reading a good story!

What the students say about me

"Mrs Fuller makes the school special, she is friendly, firm and fair, she is very enthusiastic and her bright smile makes my day."

"Mrs Fuller inspires you to have fun and work hard."

"Mrs Fuller is a very inspiring story teller. Every new story she finds in the library that she likes ,she tell it to us in assembly and it always gives us inspiration to do something new or improve what we do, and always to follow the golden rules."

This school is different to all others I've worked at because...

The students I met when I visited the school blew me away, their passion, energy, optimism and articulate responses made me proud to be joining a school where they had flourished to date. It is the first time I have had the privilege to work with a hand-picked staff who are all 100% motivated by the possibilities that a new building such as ours can provide; it is invigorating to be surrounded by such like-minded individuals.
