Staff Profile: Esther Wright

Esther Wright

Teacher of Physical Education

I graduated from Moray House Institute of Sport, Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh with a Bachelor Degree (Honors) in Physical Education and taught in the UK for 7 years. Since the year 2000 I have been Head of Primary and Secondary PE departments in 4 International schools in China, Switzerland, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.

I have been The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award coordinator, developing programs from 8 students to over 150 students participating at all 3 levels. I have coached a variety of sports at various levels including Head Track and field Coach (Swiss and European Champions), Junior Varsity Girls Soccer (Swiss Champions), and Middle School Girls Volleyball/Basketball/Touch Rugby (South China Delta Champions). My previous two schools were American International Schools in China and Switzerland. I wanted to teach at BISH, because it is an International School in America.

Sport has always been an integral part of my life. When I was younger I represented Scotland and Great Britain Junior track and field athletics team, in the Heptathlon. In the last few years I have been participating in Shukokai karate and I am now a blue belt. I obviously enjoy travelling. I have visited 62 countries and I have also visited 31 US states. Through my sports interests and travels, I have become a keen photographer, and have actually sold several photographs. I am now looking forward to being a part of a new family at BISH and to experience the amazing sporting culture and spirit of the USA.

What the students say about me...

“Mrs. Wright makes learning in PE fun”

“ I really enjoy PE, Mrs. Wright has challenged me and I am making decisions about my own fitness or skill development”

“Mrs. Wright is a thoughtful and caring person, she is always involved in taking after school sports. She is my coach for cross-country and girls soccer.”
