Certified Academic Language Therapist and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist
I have been working one on one with dyslexic students since 2010. Prior to becoming an independent dyslexia therapist, I was a member of staff at the British International School of Houston from 2002 to early 2011, working as a Learning Support Assistant with students in Foundation and Key Stage 1. For a number of years I was also a parent here. I am fortunate to be continuing my association with the school in the capacity of private therapist, helping students both within school and also in my home in Spring, northwest Houston.
I was born in Scotland and moved with my family at the age of eleven to the south of England. I attended Salford University where I graduated with a degree in Modern Languages. My first employment was in Business Systems Analysis prior to having children. While my children were young I ran a successful business from home, caring for pre-school children and providing after-school care for school-age children. During this time I also trained to become a Classroom Assistant with a view to training to become a teacher when my children were older. Shortly after receiving my Classroom Assistant qualification we found out that we would be moving to Houston. I have lived here since 1999, and I became an American citizen along with my husband and children in 2012.
The British International School of Houston is a place where the students are eager to learn. It is wonderful to see students running in to school faster than they run out.
