Michelle Mclaughlin

I obtained an Honours Degree in Sociology and Social Policy in 1993. Following this I gained a Master’s and Diploma in Social Work from Keele University. From 1996-2006, I worked as a Children and Families Social Worker with the Local Authority I worked in a variety of statutory social work settings with vulnerable children and their families who were in crisis and complex situations, and where there was high levels of need and risk. I also spent three years at the N.S.P.C.C (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) as a Senior Practitioner in a Specialist Harmful Sexual Behaviour Team.

In 2006, I moved to Abu Dhabi In the United Arab Emirates with my husband’s job., I decided to retrain and gained the C.E.L.T.A. Award at Glasgow University. From 2006-2010, I taught English at E.L.S. in Abu Dhabi. From 2010-2014, I taught at Abu Dhabi Higher Colleges of Technology. I taught on a variety of programs; teaching students from the Abu Dhabi Police Force, the Military and Oil and Gas Companies. I moved to Houston in August 2016 with my husband’s job. 

I have two children at BISH and they have settled very well into school life. As a family, we are enjoying familiarising ourselves with the Houston area and what it has to offer. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, swimming, reading and travelling.
