I have been teaching students from Year 1 to Year 13 for ten years. My specialist subjects are Drama, French, Spanish, and EAL. I began my career working in Spain in Theatre in Education. This position allowed me to pursue my love of acting and speaking foreign languages, whilst helping EAL students to learn English through the medium of Drama. In the UK I taught for several years in state schools before moving to Qatar, where I was Head of Drama. After four years in Qatar, my family and I moved to the British International School of Houston in 2017 in order to develop our professional careers.
I live in Houston with my husband and young son. We enjoy being outdoors, going on long walks and travelling to new countries. I am also very passionate about the performing arts. I have sung with numerous choirs, and toured several European countries with them. I have also acted on stage more times than I remember; most recently I performed in a production of the worldly acclaimed 'Les Miserables'.
What the students say about me:
Mrs Martin has helped me a lot with my confidence in school. She is the best teacher there has ever been. Mrs Martin is a very good and helpful teacher. She makes our lessons really fun and enjoyable. Mrs Martin always has a smile on her face. She is my favourite teacher.
This School is different to all others I have worked at because…
At BISH, the teachers are passionate, enthusiastic and go above and beyond for their students and their colleagues. There is a real sense of family here between staff and students, which is very comforting when you are living away from your own family. Most importantly, cultural diversity is largely celebrated and for me it has been a great pleasure to become accustomed to the many different cultures we have represented at BISH.
