Head of Year 1, Year 1 teacher
Originally from the Wirral in the UK, I studied Popular Music at Bretton Hall, Leeds University and graduated in 2003. The summer I graduated, I had an amazing opportunity to work in Maine, in an American summer camp. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. Since then, I have taught in a primary school in Manchester, starting as an NQT and progressing to Middle Leadership, leading PE and The Arts. I was drawn to Houston as it is such an exciting, vibrant city. I decided I wanted a new challenge in my career, a new lifestyle for my family, some sunshine and have not looked back since!

Year 1 Teacher
I began teaching in London where I developed my career as an Early Years and Key Stage 1 teacher. During this time I had the opportunity to be the Literacy and Early Years Leader. In 2014 I moved to Houston and joined The British International School. This was a very exciting move for me as it gave me the opportunity to work both international and within an outstanding teaching and learning setting. It has been a wonderful experience that continues to grow with each new class.
In 2006 I graduated from Dundee University, Scotland, with a Bachelor of Education degree in Primary Teaching. I taught in a Dundee primary school for a few years before making the decision to move to sunny Dubai. Whilst there, I taught at one of our sister schools, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and took on a role leading Innovation and Technology across the primary school. In 2018, we made the move to Boston, Massachusetts which gave me the fantastic opportunity to explore New England and experience the many different weathers it brings! As well as teaching in a Year 1 class in Boston, I led STEAM across the primary school. I love project-based learning and am always enthusiastic to implement innovative teaching ideas! I love seeing the progress children make on a day to day basis and watching that special moment when they learn something new. Having previously visited BISH, I am thrilled to be joining the team in Houston and being part of the vibrant school community.
Learning Support Year 1
I spent a very happy 18 years as a learning support assistant, working with children of all ages and a wide variety of needs in a primary school in the UK. On moving to Vietnam I worked with secondary students in the Learning Support Department at The British International School of Ho Chi Minh City. I missed the enthusiasm and energy of the younger children and left to teach art to the primary aged children at the International German School. I also spent a very enjoyable evening a week teaching English booster lessons to Vietnamese children from the neighbourhood that I lived in. I am still in touch with these guys and hope to visit again soon. Texas was our next stop and I feel very lucky to be able to work here at BISH. The children here are so much fun, there is never a dull moment and they continue to surprise me daily.
Learning Support Assistant
I qualified as a teacher with a BEd in 1993, and have worked and volunteered in several different schools, the latest of which is the British International School of Houston. During my time being a Teaching Assistant here, I have pursued various courses such as the PGCE to further my ability to communicate to children and help them learn.
