Year 6 Teacher
I started teaching over fifteen years ago in London, England and I joined BISH from the International School of Bremen in Germany. During my career, my roles have included Head of House, Reading Programme Co-ordinator, PTA Secretary and I had a leadership role throughout the NEASC accreditation process here at BISH. I have developed a passionate interest in the use of metacognitive approaches to help students achieve a sense of security and confidence in themselves and their learning. The decision to come to BISH was an easy one. It was very clear that my approach to learning fit perfectly with the ambitions and core values of this amazing school.

Primary Teacher
I qualified with a Bachelor of Arts in Primary Education in 2015, teaching in England for 2 years, before then moving to Switzerland, as part of my first international teaching post with Nord Anglia Education. During this time, I trained as Maths coordinator for the primary school and developed the curriculum to be in line with a Mastery approach. I also took part in several conferences linked to MIT and the STEAM collaboration, in Prague, Warsaw and Boston, as well as leading our own projects across the school. Last year, I had the opportunity to teach Mathematics, including the IGCSE curriculum, in the Secondary School. I am very happy to have joined the BISH community this year and am looking forward to developing and growing with the school and wider community in the future.
Year 6 Class Teacher
My name is Leanne Kowis and I am originally from Essex in the UK. I have been working at the British International School of Houston for four years. In my time at the British School, I have been Head of House for Water, Leader of the Duke of Edinburgh Award for Secondary and I am currently the Leader of Learning for Primary Maths. I have loved my time in Houston and have found it a really welcoming city to live in.
Head of Year 6, Class Teacher
After completing my studies and working as a Secondary Music teacher, I moved to Dublin, and then London, where my love of Primary teaching blossomed. In West London, I worked in a wonderful primary school where I became passionate about project based learning. I eventually felt inspired to experience teaching in a new part of the world. An adventure to South East Asia called and I was delighted to join a fantastic school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In those 3+ years I have accepted many new challenges that have included leading Year 4 & 5 as a Head of Year, working with a Literacy Lead team to help improve reading across the school and coordinating the music program in Early Years. When considering my move to BISH, I was most excited about joining a school that celebrates creativity and making learning meaningful and authentic.
