Head of Humanities
I have taught at BISH since 2007. I grew up in Exeter, Devon and loved it so much there I went to the University of Exeter where I obtained a BA Hons in Geography. Following that I went to the University of Bristol to undertake a PGCE in Humanities with Geography as my main subject.
My main geographical interests are development and population studies and I was lucky enough to broaden my experience in this area in 2006 when I undertook a 2 week teacher study visit to India, teaching in under-privileged state schools and working with locals in a local village as well as completing a study to compare the level of development between the rural area and the nearest big city; Bangalore. I believe first hand experiences such as this are the best way for anyone to develop their understanding of different places, so my goal to develop the opportunity for students in BISH to have this kind of experience.
Teacher of English & Year 12 Form Tutor
I have a BA(Hons) degree in English Language and Literature, a BSc(Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise Science and a PGCSE in PE and English. After completing A-levels, I embarked on a series of alternating gap years and higher education that saw me working at St Peter’s School, Cambridge, New Zealand; teaching English in Madrid, Spain; studying at the Open University in Milton Keynes; teaching English at the ABC Language School in Eastbourne, East Sussex and completing my teaching qualification at the University of Exeter.
After teaching at Edgehill College, Devon, I was appointed head of PE at the International School of Madrid and, over the course of seven years there, moved to Head of English, before coming to the British International School of Houston in 2007.
Teacher of Economics and History & Year 10 Form Tutor
I joined BISH in August 2011 as a History teacher and Extended Essay coordinator. I also teach another of my passions Economics at IB Diploma.
I graduated from the University of Lancaster with an Honours Degree in History before studying for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in History and Citizenship. I became interested in the international education field following my involvement in the Comenius Project that works to bring young people together from all over the European Community in order to develop internationalism and multi-cultural understanding. One of the wonderful things about BISH is the opportunity to experience this daily!
Psychology & TOK Teacher
This will be my 10th year working in international education, and my 14th year in total as a teacher. I am coming from ACS Egham International School (UK) where I have been for 4 years, and where I was also the Extended Essay coordinator and Model United Nations coordinator. Before moving to ACS Egham, I was at the International School of Helsinki (Finland) for 5 years. As well as my PGCE in Social Sciences, I have a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management. I am most looking forward to working in a school with such a cohesive community, strong core values, and a progressive approach to education.
Teacher of Mathematics & Year 10 Form Tutor
I came to teaching after starting out with the intention of becoming an actuary. I studied at the London School of Economics, where I gained my BSc in Actuarial Science in 2004 and began my professional actuarial training working in Group Risk for a large bank. Deciding it wasn’t for me, and having dipped my toe into the water of teaching while in Hong Kong for a few months, I made the move into teaching in the UK in 2012, gaining my QTS while teaching GCSE and A level maths. In 2014, I took a post at a school offering the IB DP, where I taught HL maths for four years, alongside GCSE. In 2017, I began a Master’s in Mathematics Education which I am due to complete next year and, as part of an interest in how the IB’s MYP prepares students for DP, I’ve spent the last six months teaching in Sweden.
Lead Teacher of Physics and Year 9 Form Tutor
I studied physics at university, with the original dream to become an astronaut.
