Staff Profile: Anna Williamson

Following my degree in Biomedical Sciences, I knew very early on that I wanted to pursue a profession that allowed me to convey my passion for Sciences to others. I have been teaching now for 15 years and have never regretted my decision to teach. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to teach in a wide variety of schools, including both the state and private sector. My specialism is in Biology, which I teach up to IB and A-level. I have also taught Physics and Chemistry up to Key Stage 4. This last academic year, I was fortunate to participate in a Middle leadership programme organised by Nord Anglia allowing me to develop further as a leader as well as work with colleagues in other Nord Anglia schools. I am passionate about Science, about teaching and learning and about constantly striving to adapt my pedagogies to ensure that students love learning and love Science.

In 2011, my husband and I finally took the plunge and decided to experience working and living abroad and since I have family in America, it was an obvious choice. The diversity (and weather) is something that I love about living in Houston. Outside of school, I am a commissioned author for ‘Coordination Group Publications’ (CGP). I have written examination questions that have been used in both GCSE and A-level revision guides and I have also been a GCSE examiner.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy lots of different sports. I have a Level 1 Netball Coaching Qualification and I still try to fit in some games when I can. One sporting highlight was last year when I took part in a national netball competition arranged by Netball America, which took place in Atlanta. Next year it is in Florida. I like to go running, choreographed dance exercise classes, Zumba and generally keeping fit, which is a good thing given the large portion sizes in Texas. In the past, I have competed in a "fun triathlon" and the Dirty Girl Mud Run. I like to try to have fun whilst exercising so this year I’d like to take part in the ‘Ridiculous Obstacle Course’.

What the students say about me

"Mrs. Williamson provides lots of enrichment material for students who want to stretch themselves."

"She is always so helpful and puts us before herself, which is really nice."

"Mrs. Williamson always tries to make our learning fun by playing games like Splat and University Challenge – underneath it all, we know she’s just really assessing what we have learned but we have fun while doing it."

This school is different to all others I have worked at because…

This school has the best students I have ever had the pleasure of working with in my entire teaching career probably because they all seem to love Science! They show great respect and kindness towards each other as well as their teachers and so all the hard work is absolutely worth it!
