In 2006, I emigrated to the UK after being offered an exciting new position at a rapidly expanding software company in Oxfordshire, where I progressed from a Support Technician to Operations Manager within a few years. Although I enjoyed my role in the commercial sector and gained invaluable management experience, the idea of returning to the school environment was never far from my mind. And so it was with great delight that I accepted a position at Chesham Preparatory School as the Head of ICT in 2010.
After successfully overhauling the Computer Science curriculum, I worked tirelessly to create and adapt relevant and challenging schemes of work to reflect the trends and developments in the IT industry. In 2013, I moved into the Mathematics department where I directed the implementation of the new curriculum for Years 1 to 8. I was later appointed as the Head of Mathematics, where I continue to develop the department by focusing on a pupil-centred approach to teaching and learning. I have pioneered the introduction of outdoor learning projects, independent investigations and cross-curricular tasks that engage and motivate pupils of all abilities.
It has been a privilege to work alongside my wife for the past three years and we both feel extremely fortunate to spend our working days with our children, who for the most part, love having us at ‘their’ school. We have enjoyed immersing ourselves in all manner of extramural activities, although my wife is still not convinced that I should be singing in the staff band! Outside the classroom, I try to keep fit through regular exercise and enjoy fishing when the weather is favourable. We are all looking forward to starting this new chapter of our lives with Nord Anglia Education in Houston.
