After having finished my teacher training in the Netherlands I worked in Dutch primary schools in both Germany and the Netherlands before I moved to the USA in 2008. Here I started working for a Dutch after-school program in The Woodlands before I transitioned to BISHouston in 2011. In school, I am responsible for the Dutch NTC heritage language program and supervising the library.
Working at BISHouston is different from all others I have worked at because of its international character. I really like the diversity of nationalities here. It gives me and the children a wider perspective of the world. The students are usually well-behaved and motivated, my fellow teachers are kind and driven and I think the school is well managed. All this together makes it a very nice place to work!
I have been married for over 25 years to my beautiful wife Ineke. Our two daughters have both finished university in Austin. I love to spend time in nature, hiking, and riding my bicycle. Things that are on my bucket list: visit as many National Parks in the USA as I can!
