Kay McClure

Kay McClure

Teacher of Science and Year 9 Form Tutor

I studied pure Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland and achieved an honors degree. I then went on to obtain my teaching qualification in Mathematics and Chemistry. I taught both subjects early in my career. I then taught Mathematics for 8 years in Aberdeen before having a career break. We moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where I occasionally worked in the British International School supply teaching. After 6 years, we moved again with my husband’s job to Houston Texas. I worked initially in the Mathematics department covering two maternities and then began teaching Science and Chemistry in December 2013.

I am married with two children. My son is 14 years old and my daughter is 10 years old. Both children have attended the British International School of Houston for the past 5 years. We are extremely happy here and love the friendly supportive staff that is employed by the school. I enjoy travelling and experiencing new cultures as well as cooking and entertaining.

What the students say about me

“Mrs McClure always makes the lesson fun and interesting, I look forward to every Chemistry lesson.”

“she helps me a lot, she is friendly and approachable”

“very kind, generous and makes sure you work hard”

This School is different to all others I have worked at because…

The students that attend this school are polite, motivated and keen to learn. The class sizes are small enough to be able to give each student the attention they need to meet/exceed their target grades and also achieve their aspirational targets. Each classroom is equipped with a smart board which makes each lesson interactive for the students. The internet is widely used in each lesson. The Science department works well as a team, each supporting one another. It is an extremely happy environment to work in.
