have been teaching Humanities for 14 years. While taking part in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, I exchanged my teaching role in Oxford for one teaching Social Studies in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This experience motivated me to consider future teaching opportunities overseas and, in 2011, was appointed at the British International School of Houston. I’ve served as Head of Years 7, 8, 10 & 11 and have greatly enjoyed being part of the pastoral team and am very much looking forward to being Head of Year 9 at BISH next year!
I began my teaching career teaching at a large comprehensive school in the City of Oxford, UK where I was Head of Geography for seven years.
I hold a BA Hons degree in Geography from Oxford Brookes University and I also have a PGCE in Secondary Geography.
Being a Geographer, I love travel and this is my favourite pastime. Living in the United States has created excellent opportunities to further this hobby and it has also provided some interesting material for the classroom!
I enjoy running, when it isn’t too hot! I have also started to practice yoga. I appreciate the arts and you can often find me at an art exhibition, music concert or attending a play at the theatre.
What the students say about me...
"Ms Capper’s lessons are always interesting and often draw on recent events that make her classes really stimulating."
"Ms Capper has taught me so much in the past few years. She makes lessons fun and exciting and adapts them for whoever is in the class."
"Ms Capper has made me greatly enjoy Geography over the last few years. She has always taught us using a wide range of different methods to make our lessons more exciting."
This school is different to all others I have worked at because…
The school is a fantastic place to work as a geographer. With students from almost every continent, it is possible to draw on their knowledge and experience to make lessons interesting and relevant. The students at BISH are extremely well mannered and kind and this makes it a lovely place to work.
