2018-19 will be my eighth year of teaching at the British International School of Houston. Since qualifying in 2004, I have taught across Years 4 through 7. Whilst teaching in the Primary Phase, I was both History and English Subject Leader. I also enjoyed responsibility as Key Stage Two Leader and Phase Leader for Years 5 and 6. I joined the British International School of Houston in 2009, and in 2013, I left to teach at The Village School for two years, before returning to the British International School of Houston in 2015. I currently teach History, Geography and English in Year 7. I am Transition Leader for Years 6 to 7 and Head of Year 7.
I am passionate about each student and love being involved in helping them make a successful transition to the Middle School Phase. Teaching across the three subjects of Geography, History and English enables me to support the students in making links in their learning and also to forge common skills and understandings that span the subjects.
I love every minute at the British International of School! Our school community has a palpable energy about it and one can’t help but be positively impacted by it. Our students are truly amazing. They are the reason why my colleagues and I love coming to work each day.
I am married and have two children, Jacob and Lily. My daughter is currently at university in Texas whilst my son is at university in the UK. As a result, family get-togethers are too rare an occurrence these days! Despite being an ‘empty-nester’, my house is always full of life as we have three dogs and a cat. I am passionate about animal welfare and am an avid supporter of plant-based eating. In my free time, I love to be with family and friends and keep active.
What the students say about me...
"She is an amazing teacher who makes learning fun.”
"I love her way of explaining things to make learning fun. I like the ‘supermarket trolley dash’ to help me plan my writing in English!"
"Mrs. Scott helped me a lot to improve my writing this year."
This school is different to all others I have worked at because…
of the vibrant diversity of our school community. Our students are a truly wonderful group of young people who have an incredible set of values. Each day, I am inspired by the students whom I meet and work with. Our staff and parent community is also unique and incredibly supportive. We all share a common goal of ensuring the best education for our students and we strive to work together to achieve this.
