My main interest outside of school is sport, especially watching rugby, but I also try to play soccer and tennis whenever possible. Since my wife Sally and I have welcomed twin boys into the world, I spend most of my free time being the best dad I can be to James and Oliver. Moving to Houston as a family is very exciting for me and embedding them into the BIS Houston community is a big part of my plans.

After graduating from the University of Birmingham, in 2000 my UK teaching career has been mainly based around the second city of England. The three English primary schools that I worked in were mixed in their setting, but all shared a high standard of education, with student wellbeing at their core.

I have taught from Year 1 to 6 and held various positions of responsibility. My last role in a UK primary school was as Deputy Head Teacher and I was responsible for teaching and learning, assessment, and professional development.  During my time working in the UK, I have experienced several government inspections, all with positive outcomes, this led to me supporting other primary and secondary schools that needed improvement with teaching and learning.

Before leaving the UK, I also worked in a Local Education Authority as a Teaching and Learning Consultant where I worked intensively with schools on Behaviour, Attendance and Wellbeing. This role meant I was also able to work with the government, teaching organisations and universities on curriculum design and best practice. As part of my role, I was also part of the team that supported newly qualified teachers to transition from university into schools, continuing their development as educationalists.

I chose to move internationally in 2012 to further enhance my teaching experience, which was achieved by joining the Nord Anglia International School, Pudong in Shanghai, China. Working for Nord Anglia Education for ten years has enabled me to lead a school in an international context; collaborate with, advise and visit schools throughout Asia, Europe and the Middle East; and have a deep understanding and passion for how Nord Anglia can positively impact its students.

In September 2020, I took over the as Principal of the Nord Anglia International School in New York. This enabled me to bring my international experience to the Americas region. During my time in New York, I have overseen the growth of the school, improvements in parent and staff satisfaction survey results, and the creation of partnerships with top destination High schools in the NYC.
