Staff Profile: Sam Pearce

Sam Pearce

Year 4 Class Teacher and Head of Outdoor Education

As an undergraduate I studied BA(Hons) Coaching & Physical Education at the University of St Mark & St John in Plymouth (UK). Through this physical education degree, I experienced a blend of theoretical study and applied practical theories to developing elite athletes. This healthy combination help inspire me to pursue a career in Primary Education.

I studied at the University of Worcester to gain my PGCE in Primary Education where I also specialised in Physical Education. Following my PGCE I was employed as a Year 4 class teacher in a school in Wolverhampton. I held co-ordinator roles in Geography and Forest School. Here, I developed the schools outdoor education programme, renovating outdoor learning environments and creating opportunities for inner city children to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment. After my first 2 years I was then enrolled as Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage 2 before joining British International School of Houston.

I enjoy being outside, being active and visiting new places. This is not the first time I have been to the United States. Over a 5 year spell I worked as a Water Sports Director and an Outdoor Educator in Massachusetts. In these roles, my hobbies became my job. I met many marvellous people in the U.S from all corners of the globe. I knew then, some point in my lifetime I would love an opportunity to live and work abroad permanently. I’m very excited about all the places I can visit in Houston and hope to go to every US state, so far I am on 9.

I am looking forward to watching the variety of American sports on offer, particularly American football where I have adopted New England Patriots as my home team. Talking English football, I have always followed the claret and blue of Aston Villa.
