Mr Russell Moriarty

Russell Moriarty

Deputy Head of Primary - Curriculum and Learning

Russell graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BEd (Hons) in Education and English. He began his teaching career in the UK and to develop his understanding and empathy for learners with English as an additional language, he gained a TESOL certificate.

As an international educator, Russell’s passion for curriculum development has led him to become a Concept Based Curriculum and Instruction Trainer and Presenter.

Since moving overseas, Russell has enjoyed a wide range of teaching and leadership roles at leading British international schools in Montevideo - Uruguay, Cairo - Egypt, Shanghai - China and has spent the last 12 years in Hong Kong at an international community school that provides an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. Here, Russell has been Head of Year, IPC Leader, and Whole School Leader for Curriculum Innovation.

Russell strongly believes that developing culture in a learning environment is essential creating an atmosphere where all learners feel valued, respected, and have a voice. Building a culture of open discussion and debate can really create a place where learners want to learn and grow with each other; ensuring there is always equity and access to all learning. Displaying respect and nurturing well-being in all individuals will result in them feeling valued and inspired to reach their full potential. Russell’s passion and belief in the power of learning conceptually and drawing on opportunities for inquiry and agency around big ideas helps provide opportunities for students to transfer new understandings and experiences to new contexts. The aim being that they use their curiosity and passion for learning to impact themselves, their environment and the connections they make to the wider world throughout their lives.

Russell is very excited to be moving to Singapore with his wife, two children and cat -Dim Sum. He enjoys walking and hiking and supporting his children in their sporting and musical endeavors. Russell loves exploring the culture, food, local history and architecture of each location he has had the opportunity to live in. He has a keen interest in photography, which always becomes a key part of living in or traveling to a new location.
