Breakfast at Tu Xuong

26 August 2015

It has been anticipated for weeks by students, parents and teachers alike, but finally the holidays are over and the new Academic Year has begun.

Over at our city centre campus, Mr. Ian and Ms. Mary stood smiling at the gates of Tu Xuong welcoming the students and their parents as they arrived for the first day back.

Greeting the children at the gate Tu Xuong

Quite often the first day back at school following a long break can be daunting for the children, but any nerves were most certainly left at home today. There was nothing but smiles on the faces of the returning children, who could not wait to see their teachers and their friends. Even the children who were entering school for the first time had a bounce in their step once they were greeted by their first names.

The only nervous faces were those of the parents who were faced with having to leave their children behind for the first time. Thankfully, those parents were happily distracted by a welcome breakfast, prepared and hosted by the Parent Teacher Group. There was homemade brioche, scones and jams available, alongside coffee and tea.

It was an excellent opportunity for those parents that are less familiar with the school to meet existing parents and get to know the community that supports their children.

Ann Salapete, the mother in charge of it all, made a concerted effort to introduce new parents to new staff and to each other, a process that proved exceptionally useful for all involved.

When asked why she had decided to put on today’s event, Ann said “I like to see people connecting. At a school like Tu Xuong, it should not only be about academics”.

The Tu Xuong PTG are hoping to put on many more events during the year ahead, so watch this space. If you have children at the school, and would like to get involved with the PTG, please do not hesitate to get in touch directly with our Tu Xuong Campus.
