Pleased to meet to you..... Paul Mitchell

This week we are pleased to meet Paul Mitchell, Mathematics Teacher and Head of Year 11

Paul Mitchell

Where are you from originally? Queensland, Australia -- also known as  “The Sunshine State” of Australia.

Have you lived in any other countries? This is my 14th year as an international teacher, Ive lived and worked as a teacher in Central London (4yrs), Kuala Lumpur (3 yrs) and Poland (7th yr)

Where and what did you study for your education? BA - Education and Mathematics (major) - Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.

How long have you been at TBS?  This is my 7th year

What do you enjoy most about teaching at our school?  I would rather not see myself as a teacher, rather as a promoter of education and learning. What I do in the classroom makes up a fraction of what I believe in regarding student outcomes. It's all the activities and actions that drive my passion to stay in education, working with kids and developing/supporting them in expeditions, community actions, ISMTF maths competitions or sporting events, that enrich them as learners and individuals, is what keeps me passionate about education. With that said, TBS students always impress me with their level of enthusiasm and dedication, as long as the expectations are high and students are push, TBS kids will rise to the challenge and opportunity.

What are you most looking forward to in the 2018/2019 academic year? Seeing my year group, step up to the challenge of the mock exams and then use them as a stepping stone to success in their actual exams in May. I'm looking forward again to the Awards and Formal celebrations for year 11 on the 17th of April.  But I enjoy the continual community spirit of the year Ks4 and Ks5 students as they pull together to support underprivileged Polish people running the monthly soup kitchen.

Whose your favourite historian/scientist/literary figure and why? Musician and Actor - Tom Waits --- just listen to his music and you will know why!

What is your favourite thing about living in Warsaw, Poland? Food and the Opportunities to develop something new and support my wife’s start-up! To find out more click here.

What do you miss most from home? My Brothers, Family, the beach, the sun, the space!
