The Nord Anglia Education Performing Arts Festival took place at one of our sister schools, North Broward Preparatory School in Fort Lauderdale and included students aged 11-18 from all Nord Anglia schools across North and South America (289 students attended this year). Students can choose a Discovery or Young Artist pathway depending on their previous experience and can attend workshops in Drama, Dance, Voice, Musical Theatre and Music genres. BISW students, Grace Webner in year 7 and Mai Gabra in year 8, attended this year and chose workshops such as Stage Combat, Theatre Games, Contemporary Dance, and Disney Sing-along. They also took part in a Musical Theatre workshop led by a former Broadway performer, and learned original choreography from the latest Broadway smash Hamilton, taught by one of the current cast members.
Afternoons included rehearsals for a final performance which took place at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center on Sunday evening in front of a live audience. Grace chose to perform in a Contemporary Dance piece, which was choreographed by an ex-Julliard student and professional dancer, whereas Mai performed in a Drama piece devised by a Julliard alumni and professional actor.
Each evening was filled with lots of great activities - on the first night Mai performed a solo song for the rest of the festival and we enjoyed performances from all of the other schools. On Thursday, we attended Groundhog Day The Musical, and Friday evening included a Dinner Cruise in Hollywood.
The experience was perfect for anybody who is interested in Performing Arts, regardless of previous experience.
