Alison Bates

Performing Arts Teacher

A former professional performer and choreographer, Alison Bates teaches music, drama and dance to all of primary and lower secondary students. She has a wealth of experience teaching the arts to all ages, and has a passion for encouraging all children to explore their innate creativity!

My own journey into the arts began with ballet lessons, aged 4, in my hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne. Bitten by the bug, it became my sole mission to immerse myself in every element of performing arts I could find, which included many more dance classes, singing lessons and countless trips to the theater.

At the age of 18, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the prestigious Stella Mann College of Performing Arts, which subsequently led to a career all over Europe as a professional dancer, singer, choreographer, and eventually a managing director of my own production company in Spain.

Upon returning to the UK in 2013, I decided to embark on a new career of sharing my love of the arts through education, and obtained my Certificate in Education from the University of Central Lancashire, followed by a BA (Hons) in Theater from the Guildford School of Acting.

I have since been teaching in secondary schools and colleges in North West England, becoming Course Leader of Musical Theater in an FE establishment in Manchester before being offered the post at BISW.

It is such an honor to join an incredible team at BISW, and fulfill a lifelong dream of living in the United States. I am excited to share my passion with the students, and collaborate with global ideas that only an international school can provide. I look forward to developing lots of performances that both the students and I can feel proud of, and can guarantee lots of sequins and jazz hands along the way!
