Catherine Yates

Head of English

Catherine studied at Loughborough University and the University of Cambridge. She has been teaching English Language and English Literature since 2001 in co-educational Secondary schools in the UK, USA and the UAE. Her passions as a teacher include Shakespeare, poetry of the Romantic and Elizabethan eras and the works of Maya Angelou.

I have been teaching at BISW since 2017 and am particularly enjoying the breadth within the IGCSE and IB courses that we offer; our students' international outlook makes perspectives and analysis a really satisfying and educational experience for teacher and students alike.

My hobbies include singing, the ukulele, musical theatre and travel. I have completed several triathlons for charity, trekked through the Vietnamese jungle, performed for royalty and even sung on the soundtrack for a movie - as part of a chorus!
