Eleanor Bram

Head of Mathematics

Eleanor is an experienced international teacher, having taught in the U.K, Sweden, Hong Kong, Houston and now Washington D.C. As well as teaching the IB DP (SL & HL) she is also an IB examiner. Eleanor has also taught IGCSE and KS3 for over 10 years. She will now be taking over as Head of Maths.

I came to teaching after starting out with the intention of becoming an actuary. I studied at the London School of Economics, where I gained my BSc in Actuarial Science in 2004 and began my professional actuarial training working in Group Risk for a large bank. Deciding it wasn’t for me, and having dipped my toe into the water of teaching while in Hong Kong for a few months, I made the move into teaching in the UK in 2012. In 2020, I completed a Master’s in Mathematics Education with a focus on an Inquiry Based Approach to teaching Mathematics. I believe that maths should be relevant and engaging and that it is accessible to everyone. My mantra to all my students is to add the word ‘yet’ to the phrase ‘I can’t do it’! For the last two years I have taught at the British International School in Houston - an incredible experience. However, I am very excited to now be joining BISW and look forward to being a part of the community I've heard so many good things about.
