Over the last 12 years I have taught at a range of schools in the UK and have taught a range of qualifications. I taught all three sciences for students in years 7-11, and biology and chemistry for students in years 12 and 13. I was head of chemistry for 4 years prior to working at BISW, and set up a chemistry department from scratch in a start-up school. Within this school our results were outstanding and in the top 10% for value added, and top 30% for chemistry nationally (in a mixed comprehensive state school).
My undergraduate degree is a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science, which was followed by a couple of years in laboratories (microbiology and chemistry R+D). I later studied my PGCE (secondary science) and then my masters of research (MRes) in Biomedical Science. During my masters we had an abstract published (and soon a paper) regarding the "Protective effect of exenatide against efavirenz-mediated endothelial cell dysfunction".
After many years teaching in the UK, in challenging schools, I decided it was time for a change. My last cohort of students was a truly international mix, and I really enjoyed working with both the students and the parents. I worked in America many years ago in Walt Disney World, and had always wanted to return. After hearing great things about Nord Anglian I decided to apply for my current role within BISW, and it is a privilege to be working within this great team.
