When you join one of our schools, get ready for an education like no other. Nord Anglia students have opportunities to join global expeditions, which take place at our dedicated centres in Arusha, Tanzania and Les Martinets, Switzerland. These are open to students in across our international schools, and offer a choice of locations, activities, and level of challenge.

 

  • Our expeditions in Tanzania provide opportunities for students to work on sustainability projects, explore Mount Kilimanjaro, follow the footsteps of early man, and more. Nord Anglia students learn about sustainable development, the important role we all play in protecting the planet, and can work with the local community on building projects.

 

  • Our expeditions in Les Martinets, Switzerland develop perseverance and challenge our students to go beyond their own limits. No matter what expedition they choose, their journey will give them a first-hand taste of alpine life, from adrenaline-fuelled snow sports to community service projects. Physical endurance is combined with breathtaking scenery, as they learn to navigate, develop their independence, work together in teams to reach stunning destinations, and more.

 

Our trips are meticulously designed to nurture the skills and attributes students need to become successful global citizens in a safe and supportive environment.  Whichever Nord Anglia expedition your child chooses, they’ll step out of their comfort zone, take the lead, and feel part of a tight-knit team. Spanning peaks, valleys, and national parks, our life-changing Tanzania-based expeditions – which include the chance to scale Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro – offer unrivalled opportunities to learn and make a real difference.

Tanzania Service Expedition
Students aged 13+
Our Tanzania Service Expedition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to make a real difference in communities across the Arusha region. Over the course of eight days, your child will take part in a series of eye-opening service, youth engagement, and sustainable development projects. Working in partnership with locals, our students form new perspectives, grow in confidence, and learn to solve problems. This incredible trip also includes a safari through Tarangire National Park.

Rift Valley
Students aged 14+
From our base in Engerosero, which is located on the edge of the Serengeti National Park, our young people explore one of the most beautiful and remote areas of Tanzania, the Rift Valley. Students spend a week supporting projects in the Maasai community, gaining a deep understanding of Maasai culture. They also visit Lake Natron, work with a local primary school, and discover the Rift Valley on foot, walking among zebra, wildebeest, flamingos, and more.

Mount Kilimanjaro
Students aged 15+
Our Mount Kilimanjaro Expedition challenges students both physically and mentally, as they work as a team to summit Africa’s highest peak. The seven-day ascent-descent, completed via the established Machame route, offers breathtaking views, incredible hiking, and plenty of team-building opportunities. Led by our experienced guides, your child will develop their leadership skills, resilience, and confidence, and forge bonds that last a lifetime.

Footsteps of Man Trek
Students aged 15+
The newest Nord Anglia expedition offers students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in real wilderness, as they embark on a trek through time. Your child will follow in the footsteps of early man, as they explore some of the most important paleoanthropological sites on the planet, from the shores of Lake Natron through to the Olduvai Gorge. Inspired by local guides and Nord Anglia’s expedition team, this fascinating and physically challenging trip will shape how your child sees the world.

Lake Manyara Service
Students aged 14+
Our rewarding Lake Manyara Service Expedition sees students live and work alongside Maasai communities on the slopes of the Losimingori Mountain Range, which borders the Lake Manyara National Park. Led by our NGO partners, your child will support important local projects, including water purification initiatives, tree planting, and sustainable agriculture programmes, developing a host of transferable skills in the process. Students also enjoy a two-day safari in the spectacular Tarangire National Park.

Mt Meru and Safari
Students aged 14+
Combining a challenging trek to the peak of Mount Meru, a rewarding community service project with a partner charity, and an exciting two-day safari through Tarangire National Park, this popular expedition has something for everyone. Our action-packed trip will challenge your child physically and mentally, while also providing unique opportunities for them to engage with local people, learn about sustainability, and explore Tanzania’s incredible breadth of landscapes.

Dazzling blue skies, towering peaks, and jaw-dropping vistas – Switzerland is a truly spectacular country. It’s the perfect place to explore or embark on an exhilarating alpine adventure.

Experience Switzerland
For students aged 12+
Our Experience Switzerland Expedition offers something for everyone, bringing students together from around the world to discover all the country has to offer. Your child will enjoy challenging but accessible treks, such as the Tour de I’Argentine, and visit Glacier 3000 to learn about glacial retreat. They’ll also wander the lanes and tracks of idyllic villages, including Gruyère, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how Swiss chocolate and cheese are made.

Trek Switzerland
For students aged 13+
From our expedition base in Les Plans sur Bex, students embark on a three-day, two-night trek through the Swiss Alps. The area’s unique terrain features high passes and the chance to traverse alpine glaciers, which offer amazing views of Mont Blanc. Staying in local mountain huts and camps, our trekkers take the lead, as they learn about navigation, self-care, teamwork, cooking, and decision-making. We also offer an Advanced Trekking Expedition.

Snow Sports
For students aged 12+
Our week-long Snow Sports Expedition gives students of all abilities the chance to ski, snowboard, and snowshoe through breathtaking alpine scenery. Based in Les Plan sur Bex, which is a short journey to the picturesque snow sports town of Villars-sur-Ollon, the trip gives winter sports enthusiasts the chance to develop their skills in their chosen discipline, divided into groups based on experience. Every session is led by specialist instructors, who will nurture your child’s confidence and ensure they have lots of fun.

Alpine Mountaineering
For students aged 15+
A truly exhilarating experience, our Alpine Mountaineering Expedition is designed for students with an adventurous spirit. Your child will join IFMGA mountain guides to scale peaks with awe-inspiring views of Mont Blanc, The Matterhorn, and Eiger. Our students also cross glaciers and traverse via ferrata, as well as learning mountain rescue skills. Collaborating with like-minded peers, your child will form firm friendships and develop a host of lifelong skills.

Advanced Trekking Expedition
For students aged 15+
Our Advanced Trekking Expedition is a challenging but richly rewarding journey through the Swiss Alps. Over four days, our trekkers navigate winding mountain passes, conquer steep ascents, and spend their nights in cosy alpine huts. In the process, they learn to work effectively as a team and develop important leadership skills. The physical challenge element of the trip is bookended by immersive cultural experiences, which students enjoy from NAE’s base in Les Martinets.
