NAE-Juilliard Collaboration Updates at BST

During the past few weeks, many of our students have spent some of their music lessons learning about Beethoven and the world of the orchestra.
We have used a variety of activities from the Juilliard Creative Classroom. The activities were based around the famous opening of Beethoven's Symphony no. 5.
Our KS1 students at Sayram did an activity called 'The short and the long of it', to understand how music can be expressive, through short and long sounds.
In KS2, students learned to play Beethoven's famous four notes, using keyboards. They also created artwork based on the idea of motives and 'planting a musical seed'.
In KS2 and KS3, students took the famous four notes, and developed them further into improvisations or mini compositions.
Some students also explored and developedthe opening motif of the fourth movement, in happy C major, apparently inspired by Beethoven hearing the call of yellowhammer birds in a Vienna park.
In addition, an online at-home task for KS2, was provided, to research the life and music of Beethoven.
We have included different media of our children at work.
In addition, here are some You Tube links, to help our school community appreciate this 5th symphony masterpiece.
