What family engagement really looks like in a world-class school

UAE Year of the Family | Family engagement at SISD - What family engagement really looks like in a world-class school
What family engagement really looks like in a world-class school

Family is at the heart of learning. The UAE has named this year, “The Year of the Family”, a reminder that schools thrive when teachers and families work together. At Swiss International School, we turn that belief into a daily practice. Here is how your involvement really looks and feels at a world‑class school in Dubai.

Students spend a significant part of their lives at school and it is often called a second home to them. You drop your child off in the morning, running off with their backpack on and waving goodbye, and sometimes you catch yourself wondering: “How can I be more involved in their learning journey?” At SISD, there are many ways for families to be actively part of school life.

Beyond coffee mornings and assemblies

Family engagement at SISD goes beyond attending events. It’s about being present in ways that matter. Parents join read along evenings, bilingual events, musicals, sports days and student led events that build confidence and independence. You don’t just hear about their progress, you see it. And your child feels supported through it all.

At a world-class school in Dubai, parental engagement is the feeling of being in the loop without being overwhelmed. It’s knowing you’re heard when you have something to say and it’s finding your place in a vibrant international community.

Family engagement at SISD goes beyond attending events. Parents take part in read along evenings, language showcases, musicals, sports days, and activities led by activities. These experiences allow you to witness your child’s growth, while helping them develop confidence and independence. Engagement here is about meaningful presence that enhances both your child’s experience and the wider school community.

Parents as partners in our community

At SISD, families and staff work together to create a community where every child feels at home. A key part of this is the SISD Parents Association, which plays an active role in shaping our community. The Parents Association helps foster a warm, inclusive culture and supports the school’s values through whole school events, welcome initiatives, and community activities.

The SISD Parent Association is led by a dedicated Executive Committee, committed to strengthening our togetherness. Their work ranges from organising events that bring families together, to supporting new parents as they settle into Dubai and help build a strong connection between home and school.

How we keep you informed

Clear communication has been proven to help build trust. Our iSAMS Parent Portal gives you one place for reports, key documents, and to stay updated on the latest news. We share a simple flow of updates across the year, so you always know what is coming next. You can track achievements, view academic calendars, and access resources in minutes.

Listening to family voice

Your insights help us improve. We invite feedback through surveys, group meetings, and focused parent sessions. We also learn from the many cultures in our community. This helps us build and organize activities and events that reflect what families need and value. Our Parent Essentials hub shows how we keep this two way partnership active and easy to use.

Supporting families new to the region

Moving to a new country can feel like a lot and we try to make this transition as smooth as possible. Our after school activities help children make friends and our trips: from local experiences to service expeditions, encourage students to step outside their comfort zones and feel connected to their new environment.
For our boarding families, this sense of belonging is even more carefully nurtured. With strong pastoral care, structured routines, and a warm, home like atmosphere, boarding becomes more than just an accommodation and rather, it becomes a second home where students feel safe, supported, and truly part of a community.

Shared responsibility for success

When families and teachers work together, it results in exceptional results. At SISD, students follow personalised pathways in the IB continuum, with bilingual options in English‑French or English‑German, or an English pathway, each designed to reflect their strengths, ambitions and future goals.

Every student’s aspirations are recognised, supported and actively encouraged. Whether their ambitions lie in competitive universities, creative industries, entrepreneurship or global service, students are guided every step of the way by our dedicated university guidance counsellors and experienced secondary team, who provide clear direction on subject choices, building a good profile, applications and long term planning.

At every key stage of transition, we also host dedicated parent information sessions to ensure both families and students fully understand the options available to them. These sessions provide clarity on pathways, timelines and next steps, helping everyone feel informed, confident and aligned about the journey ahead.

Why this matters in the Year of the Family

The national focus invites everyone to strengthen home and school bonds. At SISD, we do this through clear communication, practical involvement, and shared goals for every child. It is simple and effective. Families feel connected. Students feel supported.
