Basketball continues to dominate the headlines with more chances and experiences gained for St Andrews children. Our older swimmers had their first meet of the year. And we check in on the amazing progress in golf and tennis.
The basketball season is now in full flow, please read below to see how our teams performed in their latest games. We involve as many different children as possible so that they get to share in the positive experience of school representation.
At the weekend we also had our second Swim Meet of the year. This time our older Primary School children lit up the pool. Please read below for more about the Meet.
Hopefully, this week with the air quality improving we can complete our 1000m running challenge with children from Year 3-6. This challenge is a good way for children to gauge their current levels of fitness and assessing whether they could do more exercise to improve. Last year’s results were very positive with 88% of the children from Year 3-6 able to complete the challenge. Our PE teachers use these results to talk to the children about the importance of health-related fitness and how exercise should be part of their daily lives.
From these results, we will also be able to select our BISAC Cross Country team which has been exceptional over the last few years with our U11 Girls being Champions for 2 years running.

It is great that more parents are supporting our teams across different sports. The Primary PE and Swim Department teachers and coaches really appreciate parent involvement. The Code of Conduct below is a reminder of the expectations we have of our STA parents at sporting events. If you are unhappy with any situation at a sporting event, please come to see me or email me to book a meeting. Please note that it is unacceptable to confront a teacher/coach during a tournament or a game. The PE and Swim department look forward to seeing you at the next tournament/fixture.
There was lots of basketball again this week with the girls U11 team playing their first TISAC game on Wednesday. They were victorious with a 14-4 victory. Then on Friday, 3 teams from our U11 squad went to play in the friendly BPS tournament. The children were exceptional with once again many children playing their very first basketball game for the school. The teams gained experience and also understanding throughout the tournament and should be proud of the way they played. Our girls finished runners up which was a great achievement.
Last week two Primary School students represented the school at the first ever Faldo Series Asia, which is linked with the International Schools Tour. This involves 3 x 36 hole events within Thailand this year and is a great pathway for players. These 3 Faldo Series Events will form their own individual OoM (order of merit) for scratch and Nett prizes as well as offer International School team prizes.
They played the Laguna course, which is a challenging course near the coast with a wide range of hazards and tight fairways. The course is known for windy conditions and small greens that are often quite elevated.
Both players did a great job - Pun Pun scored 92 and 95 (red tees) and Fahsai (6C) 90 and 100 (fairway tees).
Pun Pun - “I loved the Faldo series because the Laguna course they chose had small secrets on the course which is quite entertaining to play there. The Faldo tee times are also good times; early in the morning, which means you have a long practice time afterwards.”
A huge thank you to their parents for supporting us in this event as well as the players for being great ambassadors for the school. We wish them the best for the Harrow tournament this weekend at Bangkok golf club, as well as the other players that will be representing the school. It was a fun weekend for our Flames Tennis players who took part in the Panther Doubles Tennis Tournament at ISB. Congratulations to Yaya and Sarah for winning 3rd place in their respective draw.
On Wednesday, 2 October, our Primary School swimmers had a chance to meet and greet former British Olympic swimmer, James Goddard, who hosted a swim clinic with the main theme of improving our children racing strategy focusing on turns and starts. Thank you James for paying us a visit. We hope to see you again next year.
Also, It was quite an enjoyable day for our 9&over Marlins at Tigersharks Sprint Challenge on Saturday, 5 October where our Primary and High School swimmers filled the day with fast swims and personal best times. Excellent effort, Marlins!

This year St Andrews International School Bangkok have looked at ways to give more variety for our children at our weekend sports program. Below are the timings of the different sports on offer. Please sign up on Moodle for this opportunity or contact Mr Damon.
One of our overseas trips during Term 1 is the NAE Games (Dec 6-9), which is a 2-day tournament combining basketball and tee-ball. This year we travel to Vietnam for 4 days. It is a great, fun tournament for the children and the PE look forward to taking the 20 children from Year 5 & 6 on the trip. Children have now been confirmed and also children have been put on a waiting list in case a place becomes available.
*The Parents meeting is on the 14th November in the PE department.
The first overseas trip of the year is at the BISP Soccer 7s (Nov 21-24). This is a 4-day football trip where we stay on Surin Beach at the Novotel Hotel. The tournament is the biggest school football tournament in Asia and is one of our favourite trips. Children have now been confirmed and also children have been put on a waiting list in case a place becomes available.

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will, therefore, be useful.
We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:
We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.
This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.
This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.
We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.
In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.
Currently, we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.
