An update on countries on the COVID-19 quarantine list…The Year 4 Music Concert was a welcome respite from concerns of the day...With eyes and minds towards a boundless future, Year 5 students launched rockets into the air...The upcoming Year 13 Art Exhibition promises to be a feast for the eyes and the soul.

As you will hopefully be aware, last Friday evening Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) announced several changes to the list of countries with ongoing local transmission by adding Denmark, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA, while removing Singapore and Taiwan.

Therefore, the current country list of ongoing COVID-19 transmission includes Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.

The list of ‘Disease Infected Zones’ remains unchanged: China (including Macao & Hong Kong), Italy, Iran and South Korea.

As before, any children or parents who have recently returned from, or transited through, any of the countries on either list should not come into school until they have completed a 14-day quarantine. For any future trips to these countries, parents will need to self-quarantine for 14 days on their return. If self-quarantine is not possible, their children and other family members with whom they are in contact should also follow 14-day quarantine precautions.

Please be aware that the addition of these countries, and the possibility that more may be added, could have a direct impact on your plans for Songkran. If you have not already done so, we request that all families complete Songkran Family Travel Plans form to share your family’s plans for the holiday. Completion of this form is a requirement for the return of all students to school after the Songkran holiday.

Please see the COVID-19 FAQ, now easily accessible at http://moodle.standrews.ac.th/covid, and Monday’s Newsletter for further information.

Your continued cooperation, vigilance and support through these challenging times is immensely appreciated.

Year 4 Music Concerts

Last week I was fortunate enough to attend some of the Year 4 Class Concerts. Even though no audience was present, the fact that there was a team of 4 ICT technicians recording video and photographing the performances helped emphasise to the children how important their music was to our school community. There were periodic sound checks and reruns whenever different instrument sections could not be properly heard. The fact that so much care and attention went into capturing their musical work made the children feel that they were creating something special which they could proudly share with their family and friends.

Year 5 Rockets

In large part due to Mr Jeremy’s exhortations, I received a front row seat to the rocket launch project he was organising with Year 5 on Friday afternoon. The activity included a lively discussion with the Year 5 class on future space travel and posed questions for the children to really think through. Then, onto the field where the build-up and excitement everyone was feeling perfectly paralleled all the different sized pressurised water rockets awaiting launch.  A huge thank you to Mr Jeremy for working with the Year 5 teachers and their classes on this fantastic project.

Year 13 Art Exhibition

I am really looking forward to the individual exhibitions of our senior Year 13 art students. This event has always featured creative and thought-provoking works of art showcasing all the expressive talent students have developed throughout their course.  The fact that students’ research and development of their artistic pieces are highlighted makes this year’s exhibition really stand out. The grand opening of the Art Exhibition will initially be just for parents and teachers, but this temporary gallery will be open for several more days on the top floor of the Blue Building at High School if you are looking to treat yourself to some truly magnificent artwork.
