International Day

After some discussions as within the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and after meeting with the PTG, we have now finalised a plan to go ahead with our International Day with a slightly revised format to ensure more distancing and manage the numbers of people in the Sports Hall for the buffet.

This year, International Day for KS2 will run across two days - Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October. On the 2nd, we will have our International Assemblies. The first assembly, for Y3 & Y4, will start at 8:15 am and the second, for Y5 & Y6, will start at 10:30 am. On Thursday, children should come to school wearing their traditional, national costumes or an outfit representative of their country. Across both days, the children will participate in a range of activities organised by the teachers. As you can expect, these activities will be based around games and crafts from different countries around the world.

On Friday 2nd October, children will come to school wearing clothes representing the colours of their country’s flags. The children will continue with the teacher-led activities and will also have the chance to visit the food hall at lunchtime. Access to this will be staggered to minimise the numbers in the space.

Parent-Led Performances

We are happy to announce that we will be hosting our parent-led student performances. This year, they will take place in the Sports Hall on both Thursday and Friday (1st and 2nd October) at break time - beginning at 10 am. If you would like to organise a performance, please contact Mr Geoff as soon as possible at geoff.ma@standrews.ac.th  to register your interest. As always, we will ask to see a preview of the performance a few weeks before the big days.

Let your child’s creative juices flow!

If your child enjoys writing, they will LOVE this worldwide creative competition for KS2 children: My Country.

The competition has a theme: ‘My Country.’ It requires the children to write a piece about either the country they are from, their ideal country or their favourite country in the world. Besides providing a great opportunity to showcase your child's writing skills, there are some great prizes to be won. More details can be found on the website.

 

The piece of writing must be completed and sent from home; however, your child’s teacher would be more than happy to give some feedback before it is submitted.

The deadline for the work is 1st November 2020.

The Re-Opening of STEPS Cafe

We are pleased to announce that STEPS Cafe, which is located just up the stairs by the Sports Hall, is open again to parents. Both the Cafe and the Zero Waste Shop will be very happy to serve you!

The Cafe is open at 8 am and will then be open all day for parents’ use.

While the cafe is open for parents to use to meet and mingle, the rest of the campus is still closed to parents of any children above FS3 unless they have an appointment. KS2 parents should still continue to drop their children at the gate before later entering the campus by themselves and proceeding to the STEPS Cafe for its opening time at 8 am.

Environment and Sustainability

It won’t be long before we start signing up for our ECA programme, and Miss Susan and Mr Ewen are pleased to announce that Ecobeasts will continue this year. Ecobeasts is a network of teachers and pupils at schools across Bangkok working together to make schools greener places to be.

Despite the pandemic, last year was a busy one! We hosted another Community Action Day connecting young people with each other and the wider community to share and learn about environmental initiatives. We’ve got big plans for this year too!

We hope to empower club members to educate themselves and others about environmental problems and solutions, make real-life changes in their community and inspire us all by sharing their achievements.

We are excited to be working with “Grow” and welcome Mr. Goustan back to help develop the school’s Secret Garden. Pupils joining us will get the chance to become real gardeners.

Ecobeasts is open to children in Years 4, 5 and 6, and sign-ups are organised through Moodle.

In case you missed them, below are some photos of our first-ever “STA Beach Cleanup” House competition, which encouraged our students and their families to be proactive in helping to pick up the rubbish from into waterways and onto our beaches.

STA families collected and removed over 10,000 pieces of rubbish. Freddie and Hugo Sheppard alongside their parents joined the Banyan Tree Beach clean up, where their collective efforts removed 350 kgs of rubbish from a Phuket beach. The boys secured a win for Lahu by picking up over 4,500 pieces of rubbish between them. Well done boys! Karen took 2nd place, followed by Akha in 3rd. Thank you to everyone who took part.
