A return to our ECA programme, a celebration of a 100 days of school and some drama in Year 3!

ECAs return!

Last week saw a return to our ECA programme here at Primary. It was so great to see so many students getting involved in activities whether it was a sport, dance, art or design. There are some really great clubs that still have some places available, so please check Moodle if you would still be interested in your child joining an activity this term.

Mandala Art with Amy

Miss Amy Diener, pictured below is the ‘New York dot artist of Bangkok’. She teaches how to make mandala, portrait, animal, and nature dot paintings. She teaches dotting techniques and provides time and support for creating your own painting! This healing art activity encourages mindfulness, focus, and patience. It cultivates balance and peace within the mind, body, and spirit. The process also helps decrease anxiety and depression. No prior painting experience is required - this class is inclusive for all! There are still spaces available if you would like your child to join.

Zendokai Karate Club

There are still places available at the Zendokai karate club. Zendokai Karate is a type of sophisticated Multi-Martial Art based on Japanese Karate. “Zen'' is a school of Mahayanna Buddhism. This word ‘Zen’ means ‘meditation’. Despite training various techniques of physical fighting, the higher purpose of Zendokai Karate is to balance mind and body for maximizing personal potentiality both inside and outside. This will finally lead to better ways of living the daily life.

100 Days of School and 100 Days Smarter in Year 1

Just imagine, we have now been at school for 100 days! In Year 1, developing basic numeracy skills is an important component of maths curriculum and the 100^th day at school was a great opportunity to elaborate on our numeracy skills in fun and exciting ways. The highlight was when we explored what one hundred looks like when spread out on the floor.

And how do you do that? Well, each student brought in 100 items (thank you for your support with this at home) and lined them up in neat rows creating long lines on the floor. Of course, one hundred represents itself in other areas than just maths and therefore, it was also a great opportunity to explore the number cross curricular. Have you ever wondered about how beautiful you will look as a 100-year-old person? We did and made pictures of our future selves. We also counted sprinkles on fairy bread, made number lines and even managed to tidy up in 100 seconds! Ask your child whether they preferred jumping for 100 seconds or being quiet for 100 seconds? I know what the teachers preferred!

Juilliard Drama in Year 3

This week, in their Performing Arts lessons the Year 3 children were challenged to be characters going through a series of obstacles to complete a journey. Working collaboratively the children thought of four obstacles before showing how they would approach them, thinking carefully about their facial expressions and how they used their bodies. Obstacles included being chased by lions, crossing a large river and being chased by a swarm of bees! The children worked well together and gave each other constructive feedback for how they could improve their short performances.

Book Week is back!

After the cancellation of last year’s Book Week due to the pandemic, we are happy to announce that this year’s Book Week is on the calendar for 5th - 9th April, and we have some homegrown talent for the visiting author - Ms Pepa.

More details will be sent out soon, but for now, you should know that the Book Character Parades will be on Monday 5th April to start our Book Week in style. The theme is ‘Celebrating the Love of Reading’ so it’s now time to get creative with your book character costume designs!
