Last week, Year 5 concluded their English unit on persuasive writing by using their excellent debating skills to convince their teachers that their Thailand province was the best holiday destination. Coming up in Primary School, we will be celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee and International Day! Also, it’s not too late to help your house get points for recycling!
Last week, Year 5 concluded their English unit on persuasive writing by using their excellent debating skills to try to persuade their teachers that their Thailand province was the best holiday destination. The children had already written an independent persuasive advertisement for their province and then worked in groups to create a website and video for it. Here are some examples of the websites, including their videos:
Finn, Ollie, Kaow and Poon 5L - Phuket
MinMin, Nita, Thiago & Harper 5S - Kanchanaburi
Kao-oon, Pearl, Pimta, Pace 5G - Samui
The children had a lot of fun during the debate, as they could counter-argue points made by the other groups. It was a super activity for both speaking and listening skills too. As the children took turns to speak, the teachers noted down points made for their province and also gave points for counter-arguing. The team with the most points at the end were the winners. All the teachers were extremely impressed with how confident the children were during the debate.
Last week saw our NAE Regional Director, Mr Shaun Williams, visit STA for a catch-up with Mr Paul and to have a look around both Primary and High School Campuses. He met with the staff after school to share some NAE developments and to talk about the organisation of 77 schools.
Thursday 2nd June will see the Primary School celebrate our International Day. Unfortunately, this year we will not be having the food stalls organised by the parents or inviting parents in for a full assembly. There will, however, be some events for the students to be involved in throughout the day and we would also like the students to dress in either colours of their country or a national dress of their country, if they have one. Above are some examples of costumes and colours students have worn in the past. Your child’s class teacher may be writing to you with some more details about the day. Early in the new academic school year, we hope to have a full International Day back on the programme where we can all gather as a community once more and enjoy our diversity together.
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee (70 Years on the throne) over the weekend of the 4th and 5th June. There will be many events in the UK to mark the occasion.
As a British International School and a member of BSO (British Schools Overseas Award), STA will be celebrating this occasion on Monday 6th June. We ask that students wear red, white and blue colours instead of their school uniform on this day. Please see below for some examples of things your child could wear on Monday. Thank you in advance for your support.
Congratulations to Khun Third, Ms Becca and Ms Meg, for completing their Swim Teacher Practitioner Training with ‘Swim Coach Asia.’ They worked very hard to fulfil all the requirements needed to complete the training and now have a qualification to teach swimming to our students. This will be very beneficial to the students in the future as the teachers can support their learning in the pool. Well done to you all!
We announced via the newsletter at the start of May that families who recycle with Trash Lucky will earn house points! The house that recycles will win 200 house points! 2nd 100, 3rd 50 and 4th 20 points etc.
These slides have been shared with the students and include a run-through of the many opportunities we have for recycling at STA.
All classrooms have a paper waste bin in which we can separate our waste and get them involved in using the Ecobeast bins. Paper and mixed plastic are recycled at school and the money raised is kept as a fund to share with our maids and gardeners. Please help us show our 'Ecobeast' bins a bit more TCL!
We are very excited about the amazing posts that have already been added to the Padlet wall. Some super songs and chants - Check them out here
Because we would really love to see more of your ideas, we have decided to extend the time you have - the competition will now end on 27th May. ANOTHER WEEK!
Here are the slides, for all of the information and links you will need.
