As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day this week, it is important to reflect on the importance of teachers and their significant impact on the development and growth of students worldwide. Teachers serve as facilitators of learning, inspiring students to always pursue further knowledge, refining each student’s understanding, and helping them reach their full academic potential. However, teachers not only impact students within the classroom, but they also play a crucial role in discovering and honing the unique skills and interests of every student, guiding them in achieving whatever goals they may have in the future.
Teachers are the gardeners of education, they play a vital role in nurturing the potential within every student. Just as a gardener tends to each plant, providing the care and attention it needs to grow. They patiently guide their students through challenges, helping them mature and develop into successful global citizens, much like how gardeners cultivate saplings into strong and healthy trees.
On the 3rd of October 2024, to celebrate Teachers’ Appreciation Day at St Andrews, the Thai Department hosted a variety of different activities for students to think about how far they have come and thanks to the efforts of their teachers. In the morning, students wrote messages of appreciation and hung them onto a ‘Tree of Gratitude’ accompanied by live music performed by talented students from various years. Throughout the day, students presented garlands to their selected teachers, personally showing their appreciation to those who have made a significant impact on their academic lives.
Senior student at St Andrews Bangkok, Pun (Year 13), devises an innovative solution for effective waste management. Recently, he completed an ambitious project: an AI-powered waste sorting system. After much research and testing, he got the system to work and put the model to use in one of our rooms at school!
Physics students from St Andrews Bangkok made quite an impression at the Beamline for Schools (BL4S) competition and won the Best Outreach Award for their brilliant work. BL4S is a prestigious global physics contest organised by CERN (the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva, Switzerland) and DESY (the German Electron Synchrotron in Hamburg, Germany), inviting High School students worldwide to propose detailed experiments to be conducted at a particle accelerator beamline. While our students did not win the main prize of conducting their experiment in Geneva, they still stood out and were recognised from an entry of over 400 teams.
St Andrews International School Bangkok's International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) and BTEC students recently completed a week of work experience in various companies in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and as far as in Penang, Malaysia. This unique, exciting opportunity allowed the students to step out of their comfort zones and gain direct feedback from a professional environment in the real world.
