Courses & Experiences

Students may choose to apply as a Voice major for either the Young Artist or Discovery programme.

The Young Artist programme is tailored for students ages 14-18 (some exceptions possible), who are serious about the pursuit of classical voice and have had some experience and/or private training. Students will dedicate their entire day to the study of choral, solo, and chamber music, with an emphasis on individual lessons and coachings. The programme builds towards a final solo and chamber performance.

The Discovery programme is an exciting opportunity for students ages 10-18 who wish to study both singing and another artistic area. The focus of this programme is musical development as well as the choral experience. Students will participate in ensemble and master class style instruction, with many opportunities to work closely with Juilliard artist faculty. The programme culminates with a choral performance in the final concert.

9:00 - 12:30
All Voice Majors (Discovery and Young Artist): Begin your day with a physical warm up, then ease into rehearsal with Chorale, a small ensemble featuring only voice majors. In this ensemble, students will be led by Juilliard artist faculty to greatly improve and refine sight-singing and leadership skills. Mid-morning masterclass offers an opportunity for all singers to work on solo repertoire with esteemed faculty, focusing on refining vocal technique, dramatic expression, and audition strategies.

2:30 - 5:00
Young Artists: Afternoons begin with a programme-wide Festival Choir, after which time Young Artists have private voice lessons, coachings, and practice time. Following an afternoon break, Young Artist students join together for a final hour to study small group chamber music and opera/musical theatre scenes. These studies culminate in a recital on the final day of the programme. Group sessions focused on college and career preparation as well as self-reflection are a hallmark of the young artist programme.
