To kick off the Christmas Spirit, we began as we do every year, with our tree-lighting ceremony. On Friday November 27th, students in our Primary and Senior School sat down in our theatre in anticipation of the ceremony. However, before we could press the button and light the lights, there were treats in store … and what better to go with the drama, than a feast of Music, Arts and Dance taking centre stage, including a fantastic musical performance from Alexander Chamber Orchestra, who will be working with individual students from BSN in the new year. The performance including our own Aimee in Year 6 on violin, alongside the three accomplished musicians, was a stellar to start to the afternoon with Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of Flowers and the Jiangsu Folk piece, Jasmine Flower.

Next to take the stage, were the students from our Ballet Club, who showed poise and grace as they performed a Happy Waltz. We also gave out the results of our Christmas Card competition, with the judges finding it very tricky to call between the many amazing entries, the final prize was given to Alex in Year 10, with a runner-up prize to Daisy in Year 7. Alex’s cards became this year’s official digital BSN Christmas Cards.

Finally, however, Lucas and Sophia, our current Head Boy and Head Girl joined us on stage for a countdown to the moment they pressed the button and the tree and backdrop lit up the faces of some very excited students.

All that was left was for Primary to sing off against Senior School with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and, just like the Christmas Card competition, it was too close to call a winner as both sides of the theatre put their hearts and souls (and a sprinkling of vocal talent) into their renditions. What a magical start to this magical season!
