My heart has always been in the visual arts, ever since I was a young girl. I love everything about it: art production, art history, art aesthetics, and discussions about art. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Messiah College, Grantham, PA. It wasn’t until after I graduated college that I realized I really wanted to teach. I earned my Master’s degree in a year and a half from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. I taught high school level art for 12 years in New Jersey- I loved everything about it! The age is such an important time. My art room was the place that students could come and work on their projects during lunch and afterschool. I fostered a warm and welcoming environment. I also have a good amount of experience with younger students, as I taught many years of after school art as well as summer camps.
My husband Eagle and I moved down to Charlotte in 2007. Our first son, Judah, was only 2 months old when we started our Carolina adventure. Our second son, Gideon, was born in 2011. I was a stay at home mommy for 8 years and enjoyed focusing on our two amazing sons. Throughout this time I taught art at a local recreational center as well as private art lessons.
In the 2015-16 school year I taught K-3 art in a Charlotte public charter school. I then found this amazing opportunity at BISC and jumped at the chance to work at such a wonderful school. I am truly honored to be a part of this community, and have been warmly welcomed.
It makes my heart happy to share my love of art with young minds- when a child applies what I teach them in their own unique way it is truly rewarding. Equally important is a teacher’s heart for their students. I know each child is an individual and I make it a point to really get to know them and their needs, and to meet them to the best of my abilities. I bring a true passion for what I do, always wanting to try new things and forever a life long learner.
