Staff Profile: Moeneeb Galant
Each week we will feature a member of staff across all areas of the school including teachers, admin staff, support staff and more, to get to know members of our family a little better. Our profile this week is Moeneeb Galant, PE Teaching Assistant (and you may also recognise his smiling face helping direct traffic in the car park at drop-off and pick-up!).

I arrived in Abu Dhabi in 2016 from a remote area in South Africa known as the Cape Flats. An opportunity arose that enabled me to play rugby  for Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club.

Coming from a remote area where poverty levels are very high, I lifted myself up through sport to overcome the challenges that living in the Cape Flats produced on a daily basis. Thankfully, through the sporting fraternity and my passion for sport (especially rugby) on the whole, I was approached with the offer to play rugby in Abu Dhabi, an opportunity for a better life and a chance to achieve my goal in a sporting environment.

I started my rugby career at the age of 7, and improved my skills throughout the years where I became captain from under 13 through to under 19. From there I moved onto False Bay Rugby Club, who were the Gold Cup winners of South Africa for 2 years. I then moved to Tygerberg rugby club, where in 2017 I was awarded player of the year. I played for Tygerberg for 3 years whilst travelling and I am currently playing for Abu Dhabi Harlequins.

Through my rugby experiences and the opportunities given, in 2018 I had the privilege of joining the BIS Abu Dhabi community. I have thoroughly enjoyed every interaction with all of my colleagues and I have especially enjoyed working with the students of this great school. I have many roles in the PE Department and Team Falcon such as; Rugby lead teacher, Nursery to High School swimming teacher, gym instructor and sports specialist coach.

During my time in the PE department I have obtained various qualifications in the field which I am grateful for. One of them being a British National swimming coaching qualification as well as World Rugby qualifications.

Away from playing sport and coaching, I have many interests such as travelling, and my favorite location is Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia. I enjoy fishing in the open ocean and camping anywhere!

Sport has always been my passion may it be playing, watching or coaching. Therefore, educating and giving back to the BIS Abu Dhabi community from my experiences and achievements, is and will always be my greatest satisfaction and ultimate goal. Being able to carry forth my goal to teach in an environment such as BIS Abu Dhabi, who have a large global footprint, strong community and ethos is a reality worth living.
