Our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is the world’s leading post-16 education. It develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who go on to create a better and more peaceful world.
The IBDP is a challenging and rewarding experience for all our students. Recognised by universities across the world, our IBDP inspires students to excel academically, personally, and creatively. This excellence is achieved through dynamic teaching, real-world experiences, and the opportunity to truly personalise how and what they learn.
The IBDP creates pathways to outstanding global university and employment opportunities, too. Armed with an IB Diploma, the majority of our students receive offers from their first-choice universities, half of which rank in the world’s top 100.
The IB Diploma Explained
Our students study six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Creative Arts. Three of these subject groups are taken at higher level and three at standard level.
Your child will also need to complete the core programme – Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity and Service – to achieve their full Diploma.
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK): a course that explores critical thinking, giving students an understanding of how we learn
- The Extended Essay: a 4,000-word independent research project focusing on a specific subject
- Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS): a range of activities that develop our students’ creative skills and wellbeing, and support our local community
Students need to get at least 24 points to pass the IBDP, including a minimum of 12 in higher level subjects and nine in standard level subjects. Completing the core programme scores three points.
Learning That's Tailor-Made For Your Child
Your child will design their own IBDP, choosing the subjects they follow at higher and standard level, their extended essay topic, and CAS activities that reflect their strengths and talents. Supported by our outstanding teachers – who receive expert training from the International Baccalaureate Organisation – every student gets the broad and balanced education they need to create a bright future.
Outstanding Academic Success
We’re incredibly proud of our students’ impressive academic results, which are testament to their commitment, hard work, and talent. Our five-year average IBDP points score is 35, consistently higher than the global average. In 2023, one in five of our IBDP students achieved a score of 40 points or above. What’s more, 57.1% of our class of 2023 were awarded the bilingual Diploma, far above the world average.
The Importance of 'Effective Effort'
Our results don’t fully exemplify our students' commitment, resilience, and effort. Behind every achievement is a student who has overcome numerous mistakes, reflected on their approaches to learning, and found their own recipe for success.
We ask our students to demonstrate ‘effective effort’ in everything they do. This teaches them about metacognition. It’s suggested that students who know how they learn and think best make better progress. We believe this is crucial to achieving high-quality academic outcomes and preparing our students for future success.
