Our pre-nursery (Foundation 1), nursery (Foundation 2), and reception years (Foundation 3), children follow our Early Years Foundation Stage  (EYFS) curriculum, which is guided by the Development Matters Framework. Combining purposeful activities with personalised experiences, our fun, play-based curriculum ensures every child receives an education that’s completely unique to them. 


From pre-nursery, our expert teachers will guide your child through the seven key EYFS learning and development areas. The three ‘Prime’ areas – Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development – are fundamental to each child’s growth. They also support how our students learn in the four ‘Specific’ areas (Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design).

principles of effective learning

HOW our early years children learn

Our early years approach is underpinned by three effective learning principles. Combined, they ensure our youngest students develop the breadth of skills they need to thrive as they move into primary school.
Our three principles of effective learning are:
  • Playing and exploring (engagement): we encourage our youngest students to solve problems using trial and error, to experiment in familiar activities, and to have a go at new things.
  • Active learning (motivation): we encourage our children to immerse themselves in and focus on the activity at hand, overcome adversity, and celebrate success.
  • Creating and thinking critically (thinking): we encourage our learners to come up with their own activity ideas, understand the link between action and result, and approach new challenges.
