Dear Parents,

Teachers are currently busy planning and preparing for the most exciting, stimulating, hands-on science week that BIS has ever seen! The theme for next week is ‘change’: changing colour, changing state and changing environments. This half-term, we are concentrating on enquiry, from our Aide Memoire and focusing on asking good questions; science is an excellent area of the curriculum for stimulating and modeling this skill. Once interesting questions are raised, the technique of planning an investigation, setting a hypothesis, conducting a fair test, recording results and drawing conclusions are all important skills which are taught in our science curriculum. We would love to share some of our learning in science with parents on Friday 17th March at the following times:

  • 10.00 -11.00 to visit Phase 1 in the EYC
  • 11.00 -12:10 to visit Phase 2 and 3

Thank you to all parents who came in for our Shared Learning on Wednesday. I hope the sessions, with your child and the class teacher, were useful for you to gain a better understanding of the curriculum covered at BIS and also to help you celebrate your child’s achievements with them.  Over the coming weeks we are going to be offering parent workshops on a number of different topics which you may find useful. The first two workshops will be all about maths:  The first one, on Wednesday 15th March, will be on mental methods for multiplication and division and mathematical vocabulary. The second workshop will be on written methods for multiplication and division. Both workshops will be held at 3:10pm in the Parent Meeting Room. All parents are welcome to attend.

Year 2 assembly

The Year 2 children were amazing today as they joined together to perform a Talk for Writing version of the book, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. Our Year 6 students were present to report on the assembly and here’s what they thought:

Year 2 Are Real ‘Wild Things!’

Today, Friday, was 2I’s assembly in the auditorium this afternoon. It was there that they showed us all how much they know, and it really is a lot.

When telling a story, their actions were intriguing and interesting. They told the story of ‘Where the wild things are’ and they all spoke so clearly. You could tell the Year 2’s have practiced. They knew their lines and they were very clear.

They also let the whole of Primary play a ‘kahoot’ quiz all about the human body and it was a real thrill! We thought it was a great idea for an assembly because it involved everyone.

Ms Hill, the head of Primary, announced that Year 2’s assembly was AMAZING and she also said they did a great job with the actions for Talk for Writing and all did such wonderful acting! She was really proud of Year 2 and so are we!

As we all could tell, this was an amazing assembly and they achieved so much! We can’t wait to see what the next class comes up with!

Fizz, Ky Lam, Bao Linh, and Kim Ngan, 6S.
