Dear Parents,

Children across the Primary School are doing ‘Talk4Writing’ to support their literacy skills. It is an initiative that promotes children talking, telling and re-telling stories to support the development of their own language, ideas and storytelling. The children learn stories, act them out,  map them out and then move to the imitation stage where they change parts of the story. They focus on language learning, new vocabulary, choosing ambitious words and use exciting language. This week as I have spent time in classes across the Primary school I have seen: F3 children going on a sound hunt listening carefully, Year 2 children acting out stories and using actions, Year 3 children performing their new stories and praising each other for their performances and Year 6 children finding embedded clauses in Guided Reading lessons. It is wonderful to observe this focused Speaking and Listening taking place.

Student Council
This week our children from Year 2 – Year 6 have put themselves forward in a bid to become a member of our school Student Council. This week they have prepared, rehearsed and presented to their class the reasons that they feel would make them a good representative. All our teachers were very impressed by the commitment and ambitions of our students. Congratulations to all our students for their efforts. Ms. Crombie and Ms. Hull are excited to start meeting with Student Council and looking at how our students can be involved with leading change in a school and getting involved. I am pleased to share with you that the Student Council for this year are:
Year 2: Chiyo, Seo U, Maelle
Year 3: Sophia, Kien
Year 4: Binh, Amilie, Gi Yeon
Year 5: Dong Gyu, Kyle, Megan
Year 6: Son Phat, Gia Thanh, Minh Anh, Linh Chi

Parent Partnerships
The partnership between home and school is special and we are always trying to improve this as a school. As mentioned at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions last week we are looking for parents to volunteer to be a Parent Rep. This was a great success last year and we are looking for parents who would like to be a link between the class teacher and other parents. If you would like to get involved please can you email me at rebecca.carroll@bishanoi.com or kate.fitzpatrick@bishanoi.com
This is a great opportunity to connect with other parents, join school trips and support parents of new children that arrive during the year. We look forward to hearing from you.

Stay safe this weekend and see you all on Monday.

Ms Rebecca Carroll, Head of Primary
