At the Gold Standard, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award requires the expedition to be challenging, over four days and three nights, and to be in an unfamiliar environment.

The expedition this year takes place in South Korea and involves a hike along the mountainous ridges south-east of the capital Seoul. This year, our 4 participants Viet, Daniel, Thai and Hoang Anh have been accompanied by Mr Martin Toner, an experienced Award Leader and teacher at BIS Hanoi and the expedition leader, Mr Roger Shepherd.

The boys are all ok after a very difficult day. They are camping in the woods tonight and should be fine for tomorrows walk.

I'm happy to report that the boys are all well after their second day. They had a huge day yesterday and were walking for seventeen hours but today were much stronger. The next two days will also be long and difficult but they are in good spirits and all healthy. I have some photos to share with you here too.

The boys have completed their Gold adventurous journey for the International award, the most challenging aspect of this youth training programme. We are very thankful to Mr Martin Toner for giving up his holiday to allow this and to Mr Roger Shepherd of Hike Korea for his time, expertise and guidance. The boys will be giving a presentation about their experiences sometime in term 1 so please do feel welcome to attend.
