📢 Admissions Open for January 2025 - Schedule your visit today!
For the past eight weeks our Year 11 students have been following a bespoke curriculum; the IB Preparation Course. The objective of this programme has been to challenge our students with subject knowledge and skills development beyond that of the IGCSE course.
During the first week of the programme students learned about the importance of reflection within the IB Core. The year group took part in activities to prepare them for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge course and the CAS Programme. In groups, students performed a research task based around the UNICEF Global Goals. Academic research is an integral part of the IB Diploma and by getting a head start in Year 11, we hope these will be our most well-prepared students yet. Students also learned about the Theory of Knowledge course where they were challenged to question the process of knowledge production in each subject discipline. The third element of the IB core that students engaged with was preparation for the CAS course. Groups of students designed a sample project and wrote very considerate reflections on the experience of group planning.
For six weeks, students studied introductory courses to their IB courses for next year, the depth and breadth of activities covered was particularly impressive and too numerous to mention in detail here. During the final week, students held a showcase of their work over the previous seven weeks. The quality of written work on show was astounding! Teachers and senior leaders visited to ask the students questions about their learning and the Year 11 pupils spoke eloquently and confidently about every aspect of the IB programme.
A huge congratulations to Year 11 who made significant strides towards becoming IB students during the last eight weeks. We wish you all the best for next year. Based on Thursday’s showcase we expect you to thrive in the IB programme.
