Amazing Adjectives aid delightful descriptive writing!
Year 3 have been working incredibly hard on making their writing more descriptive. We have been looking at increasing our range of adjectives that we use to help paint a picture in the reader’s mind, and have used them to write expanded noun phrases. We have begun to think about specific words to make a real impact on our writing, for example, not just using ‘big’ when ‘massive’ shows how really big something is.
We have made comparisons by using similes in our writing to compare one thing to another, and we have tried to include alliteration in our work to add interest for the reader. We have also enjoyed working with the thesauruses to up level our word choices, in particular we have explored POWERFUL VERBS which help create a more detailed image for our reader. This week we also developed our range of openers which add interest and detail to our work. We have learnt to start sentences with adverbs, similes and verbs, and also to set the scene with where something takes place or when something happens.
Our favourites are:
Unexpectedly…
High up in the tree…
As the sun set…
In the distance…
We wrote lots of poems about rainforest animals using our developed range of vocabulary. We hope you like them!
