GREAT GREEN ECO DAY

GREAT GREEN ECO DAY - GREAT GREEN ECO DAY

Wednesday, April 23rd, was dedicated to the environment at our Primary School.
The Eco Committee organized a Big Green Eco Day, during which students and teachers wore green costumes and brought green plants to school. In the following months, they will take care of these plants and observe their growth and development.

Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of interesting activities, both in classrooms and especially outdoors. The project focused on outdoor environmental education, which is becoming increasingly popular at our school.

Stela, a representative of the Primary Eco Committee (Year 5), introduced the project and the activities linked to Earth Day during the school assembly.

Nursery children planted various seeds and herbs in recycled flower pots on the balcony, while Reception children built greenhouses using recycled plastic cups. They planted flowers inside and observed them as they grew. KS1 students prepared delicious salads, discussed healthy eating, and planted microgreens. KS2 students learned about deforestation and actively participated by planting trees, bushes, and strawberries.

Year 5, guided by students from the Secondary Eco Committee, took part in fun and meaningful activities related to pollination and pollinators. The Secondary students had thoughtfully prepared creative materials that made learning engaging and enjoyable.

Thanks to the cooperation between the Primary and Secondary Eco Committees, along with our motivated and supportive teachers, this outdoor learning project was a great success. We look forward to continuing it in the future.

For our Secondary School, the last week of April was also dedicated to the environment.
During CAS time, KS3 students created green corners in their form rooms, KS4 students researched and proposed ways to reduce industrial byproducts, and KS5 students helped the local city council clean up Horánska Studňa Park in Dúbravka.

As a school, we are committed to further developing outdoor teaching and learning. Teachers explored new ways of using the schoolyard during lessons, and students had more outdoor classes than usual, with plans to continue this approach throughout Term 3.

Another important element of outdoor education includes trips and excursions related to various subjects such as geography, history, and biology, as well as activities during Trips Week.

We also recognize that our playground can be further developed to benefit both the school community and local wildlife. In April, we focused on the area along the fence in the secondary playground. A survey was completed by 155 secondary students about their ideas and expectations for this space. In June, 15 secondary students collaborated with landscape designer Ms. Hustavová to develop design proposals. These will be incorporated into the final design, which will be completed over the summer. In the autumn, we hope to plant the area together with the school community.
