They say that...

They say that...

They say that the mother of invention is necessity.  And that is very often the case. But who would have thought that it would take a war to highlight to the world the necessity to find alternative ways of meeting our energy gap? The world’s reliance on oil and gas is yet again in the headlines. And for those countries not lucky enough to have access to their own natural resources, they are at the mercy of others to keep their lights on.  Or more importantly, to heat their homes to keep the winter at bay.

Now I don’t want to simplify a complex issue, one that has many facets and no single solution.  But there is one thing I am sure of and that is the need to have a new generation of creative thinkers.  Young minds, that can challenge traditional norms, question perceived wisdom, and set about reinventing the future.

And schools like BISC have a role to play.  If we can continue to place value on creative thinking, inspire fearless, confident students that are prepared to not just think outside the box, but ready to redesign the box altogether, and then think outside of it, if we can find platforms upon which we can enable these amazing young minds to translate their ideas into realities, then I think the world has a chance of changing.
It is time for us all to commit to finding sustainable alternatives, real practical ways to reduce our consumption and inventive solutions to living in harmony with our neighbors.

There can be no good that can come from war, but if it can shine a light on what needs to change, point us forward in a better direction, then there is hope for the future yet.
