We are pleased to announce the Second Annual British Charity Ball of Nanjing on Saturday, September 17th at the Ritz Carlton Nanjing. We are looking forward to seeing you once again for a memorable night of fun and philanthropy. All the proceeds from the event go to support Hopeful Hearts and Nanjing Shimao Rainbow Centre .

Last year, our first British Ball ‘James Bond - Casino Royale’ was a tremendous success, with over 250 guests from Nanjing and Shanghai. We look forward to raising the bar even higher in 2022!

CHARITIES

Hopeful Hearts

Hopeful Hearts is a medical aid charity project. It aims to raise awareness and funds in order to provide lifesaving heart surgeries for children from low-income families. Started initially in 2002 in Nanjing,  and continue to expand to Chengdu in 2009 and Guangzhou in 2012. As of now and throughout the three cities, Hopeful Hearts supported more than 800 children with funding their heart surgeries.  

Thanks to the British Charity Ball 2021 , they were able to help 14 children in need for surgery.

 

Nanjing Shimao Rainbow Centre

Rainbow Centre is a charity set up in 2014, providing palliative and hospice care for critically ill children, to improve the quality of their lives.

They work with local orphanages in Nanjing and Xiamen to help the abandoned children receive love and care and experience life, celebrate a birthday, learn a song, play a game etc, same as any other child of their age. They also work with local hospitals and have set up a hospice ward in Nanjing Children's Hospital.

What to expect?

The guests will begin their night with a welcome cocktail reception, before being served a 3 course- meal created by amazing chefs from Ritz-Carlton, with free-flow of drinks. Guests will also enjoy networking, a lucky draw, games for charity, live band and dance until the morning.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT 

Xiaomin Guo

Xiaomin is a Host on Jiangsu Satellite TV with a wealth of experience in hosting a variety of TV shows and programmes.

Her programme "Who's still standing", won Asian TV Award,  TV Art Star Award and Magnolia Award.

In 2019, she also won the title of Jiangsu Province Friendship Envoy to Foreign countries. 

Xiaomin has won the award The Best Host for "New Weekly Life Service " programme,  and the award China Broadcast Host Golden Microphone.

 

Matthew Jones 

Matthew first came to China in 2003 having completed his degree at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Having the firm intention of staying for six months, Matthew spent the next few years teaching English and studying Chinese in Guangxi Province and Shanghai before becoming one of the founding staff members at the British School of Nanjing in 2007.

Throughout his time in Nanjing, Matthew became a prominent figure on the expatriate scene as a coach for the International Youth Football League and performing in open-mic events across the city.

 

Black Diamond - Live Band 

“Downton Abbey” British Ball 2022 will feature a seven-piece international band Black Diamond to perform on stage while you dance all night!

Currently located in Shanghai, Black Diamond has performed for a series of five-star hotels and for so many other major clients such as Porsche, Swarovski, Jaguar Land Rover, La Prairie, Zenith, BMW etc.

The band has a rich repertoire of more than 200 songs, amongts which there are some of the best works of the jazz masters of 1930-1960s, pop hits of 80s and 90s as well as the most popular and contemporary Chinese songs.

Whether in corporate dinners, private parties or on the big stage, this highly professional band has performed with passion and has created the most pleasant memories for all the guests.

 

DJ Marco

Coming from a romantic and deep house techno background in Italy,  DJ Marco experienced music all throughout his life,
researching and acquiring his own taste, looking for the groove inside out. This research is still very active and is a never ending chapter in his life.                   

He welcomed the influence of European music scene in the early 2000’s in Italy and Germany, where he crossed the borders getting close to hardcore progressive music and even closer to the music industry. He then shifted to a more underground and house style which fascinated him. His taste migration constitutes the pillar of what Marco plays now,  spacey deephouse music and a polyedric ability to put together old and new  grooves that satisfy any music lover.

This year's ball theme is Downton Abbey. The TV series are set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926.

This is a TV drama that follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the family's Edwardian country house. 

It's no secret that ladies and gentelmen of Downton Abbey have always been impeccably dressed. The 1920s were a decade where fashion began to flourish with modernity.
