BST Students Win Global Young Musician Category Award

Young Musician Award Win - Young Musician Award Win

A group of primary students from The British School of Tashkent have achieved global recognition in the Virtual Young Musician of the Year (VYMOTY) competition, part of Nord Anglia Education’s Global Campus, standing out among 3,758 students from 57 schools worldwide.

The competition brings together young musicians from across the Nord Anglia network, giving them the opportunity to develop performances over several months by sharing practice videos, receiving feedback and refining their work. Entries are judged by experienced Performing Arts teachers, ensuring a high standard of musical excellence.

We are proud to celebrate Amina, Abdullah, Malika, Fatemah, Dilya, Kamila, Romina, Manha, Maryamkhon and Maryam, who were named winners of the Popular Music Instrumental Chamber Ensemble category (Group 2, Ages 7-11) for their performance of Carol of the Bells as a marimba ensemble.

Excellence in Ensemble Performance

Performing as a marimba band requires precision, coordination and a strong sense of shared rhythm. The group demonstrated excellent timing, balance and musical awareness, delivering a confident and cohesive performance that stood out on a global stage. Their interpretation of Carol of the Bells combined control, energy and expressive playing.

Their success reflects not only musical ability but also commitment, collaboration and perseverance developed through regular rehearsal and shared responsibility for the final performance.

Developing Talent Through Music

This achievement reflects the school’s commitment to developing confident, creative and collaborative learners through a broad and ambitious music education programme. Opportunities such as VYMOTY allow students to engage with an international community, refine their skills and grow in confidence as performers.

Primary music teacher Ms Ksana highlighted the value of the experience, describing the competition as an opportunity for students to showcase their musical journey while working towards a shared goal. She emphasised that the students’ dedication and teamwork were particularly impressive, especially as the marimba band rehearses as part of an after-school club. She also noted that the focus, technical skill and resilience required to perform at this level made their recognition by professional judges especially meaningful.

A Passion for Music

Reflecting on the experience, Romina said, “I was really determined to make no mistakes, and even more determined to perform and make people smile. Music is one of my favourite things in life, and I can’t live without it”.

Manha added, “I love it, it was really fun, because I learned a new instrument and I can perform now”.

Looking Ahead

This success is a proud moment for The British School of Tashkent and highlights what young musicians can achieve through dedication, collaboration and a love of performance. It will inspire more students to take part in global opportunities like VYMOTY and continue developing their musical talents both in and beyond the classroom.
