BST retains full BSO accreditation: a leading standard of academic excellence in Uzbekistan

BST retains full BSO accreditation - BST retains full BSO accreditation

The British School of Tashkent (BST) is proud to announce that we have once again achieved full accreditation as a British School Overseas (BSO), following our most recent inspection in October 2025. This makes BST the only school in Uzbekistan to have achieved and retained full BSO accreditation across two consecutive inspections, reinforcing our position as one of the most recognised and academically ambitious schools in the country.

This success reflects what families value most about BST: high expectations, outstanding teaching, and a warm international community built around the best of British education.

Our Principal, Dr Andre Nel, commented:

“External, international validation plays an important role in ensuring that we continue to deliver the highest standards of education. This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff, the ambition of our students, and the strength of our community. As we look ahead to the opening of our new campus, we do so with confidence in a foundation that is both established and proven.”

What is BSO accreditation and why is it important for families?

BSO accreditation is the UK Government’s official quality assurance scheme for British international schools overseas. It is a voluntary process run by the Department for Education (DfE), using rigorous standards comparable to those used for independent schools in England.

The inspection is conducted only by DfE approved inspectorates - including Penta International, the body that inspected BST - and is independently monitored for quality by Ofsted.

For parents, this matters because:

BSO is the only accreditation officially recognised by the UK Government for British international schools
BSO standards mirror those used to regulate independent schools in England, ensuring British educational authenticity and quality overseas
Accredited schools must be reinspected every three years, ensuring continuous improvement and consistent high standards

Simply put: BSO accreditation gives families confidence that their children are receiving a British education aligned with the highest international benchmarks.

What inspectors said about BST in 2023

The 2023 inspection confirmed that BST met all BSO standards and provided a “good quality UK style education” with strong community values and high levels of student engagement.

Inspectors praised:

Clear and ambitious school leadership driving further development
Good teaching and effective learning across the school
Strong progress in academics and personal development
A rich programme of extracurricular activities enhancing students’ social and emotional growth
A welcoming school culture built on respect, wellbeing and shared values

This report affirmed BST’s strong foundations and commitment to ongoing improvement.

What inspectors found in 2025: a school growing in strength and excellence

Two years later, the 2025 inspection verified not only ongoing compliance but significant improvement, describing BST as “one of the leading providers of British style education in Uzbekistan” and rating several areas as outstanding.

Key highlights from the 2025 report include:

1. Stronger student achievement across all phases

Inspectors found that students make rapid progress from diverse starting points, especially those learning English as an additional language, with GCSE and A Level results well above international benchmarks.

2. A high-quality curriculum with outstanding features

The curriculum was judged good with outstanding elements, offering a complete academic pathway from EYFS to A Levels and preparing students successfully for global university destinations.

3. Teaching and assessment improving to outstanding

Teaching was praised for strong subject expertise, effective questioning, purposeful feedback, and excellent integration of technology - including AI-assisted learning in the secondary school.

4. Outstanding student development and community values

The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students was rated outstanding, with inspectors noting BST’s inclusive culture, strong student leadership, and global enrichment opportunities through Nord Anglia Education.

5. Leadership and management rated outstanding

Inspectors highlighted the strength of BST’s leadership team, strategic planning and commitment to high standards, all supported by Nord Anglia Education’s global expertise.

How external bodies describe the value of BSO schools

The UK Department for Education emphasises that BSO-aligned standards are “comparable with the independent school standards” used in England, giving parents clarity and confidence when choosing an overseas school.

AoBSO describes BSO as “the gold standard in British international education” and highlights that accredited schools demonstrate educational quality “backed by rigorous quality assurance from Ofsted.”

Education Development Trust adds that BSO inspection provides “reassurance for current and prospective parents” by confirming that the school meets internationally recognised standards of excellence.

These external international endorsements help prospective families understand the global significance of BST’s achievement.

The British School of Tashkent: the only fully accredited BSO school in Uzbekistan

This distinction matters.

Not only has BST achieved full BSO accreditation - the highest endorsement of British educational quality overseas - but it has retained it across two consecutive inspections. No other school in Uzbekistan holds this status.

For families seeking an internationally recognised, academically ambitious British education, this positions BST as the clear leader.

A trusted choice for families in Tashkent

For prospective parents, BST’s BSO accreditation means:

A British education aligned to UK standards
High expectations and strong academic outcomes
Expert teaching supported by Nord Anglia Education
Outstanding safeguarding and student wellbeing
A global community built on respect, creativity and ambition
Qualifications recognised by universities worldwide

If you are considering an international school in Tashkent, BSO accreditation provides the clearest, independently verified indicator of educational quality - and BST stands alone in Uzbekistan in achieving this level of recognition.

Looking ahead with confidence

With the move to our new state of the art campus in August 2026 and ongoing strategic support from Nord Anglia Education, BST continues to grow in ambition, scale and excellence.

Retaining BSO accreditation is a powerful affirmation of who we are: a school that delivers the very best of British education, enriched by a global outlook, and shaped by a belief that every student can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
