BVIS Secondary Film Competition

BVIS Secondary Film Competition The Secondary Film Competition is open to any student who has an idea for a short film up to seven minutes long. Students can work as part of a larger production team, or as an individual and there is no limit to the number of films they can submit.

Over the next few weeks, budding filmmakers from across BVIS will be joining forces to create a production worthy of a BVIS Oscar. The Secondary Film Competition is open to any student who has an idea for a short film up to seven minutes long. Students can work as part of a larger production team, or as an individual and there is no limit to the number of films they can submit. Students are also encouraged to seek advice and support from the Year 12 and Year 13 Media Studies students.

Awards are divided across three age groups with the following maximum time limits for each group:

9 - 12 years (up to three minutes)
13 - 15 years (up to five minutes)
16 - 18 years (up to seven minutes)

There are seven genre categories, which will able any budding Đặng Nhật Minh or Lynne Ramsay to fully explore their creativity. The categories are:

Drama – any narrative.
Horror – something scary (all films must be suitable for Year 7 students and above)
Animation – any form of animation
Documentary – any subject!
Experimental – any film that does not fit the mould of typical filmmaking.
Music Video – music video ((Music must be own composition, licensed or have the full permission of the recording artist)
Short short – any film 60 secs or under

The final deadline for entries is Friday 22 March, after which a panel of students and staff members will shortlist nominees. Nominees will be recognised in the BVIS Oscars Ceremony on 5 April and will also have the opportunity to enter their film for the prestigious Across Asian Youth Film Festival, which takes place in Ho Chi Minh City towards the end of April.
